In addition to serving as Blue Dot’s CEO, Michael is Founder of Alba Risk Management Services, an 18-year-old multi-disciplinary law firm and insurance brokerage that has served some of the nation’s largest environmental clients (military, industrial, developer, insurer, and non-profit) and helped accomplish some of its largest cleanups (e.g., McClellan Air Force Base; the 89 GM-related “RACER” properties). Prior to creating Alba, Michael was a Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice (where he received DOJ’s Awards for Outstanding Service and Special Achievement); Partner in a large D.C. law firm (where his clients included TRC a publicly-traded remediation contractor that pioneered FPCs and was then the world’s largest user of environmental insurance); and Chair of Marsh’s environmental insurance brokerage (then the world’s largest). From 2010-2012 and following his nomination by the White House, Michael (while also remaining at Alba) served as COO and General Counsel of the $773M Trust established by the U.S. and 15 State/Tribal Governments to remediate and redevelop the 89 industrial properties abandoned in the GM bankruptcy.

Michael graduated from Williams College and Yale Law School, where he served as an editor of the Yale Law Journal. He is a member of the bar in New York, Vermont and Washington, D.C.

Daniel Lavoie is a seasoned insurance executive, attorney and broker with specific expertise in environmental law and insurance. He and Michael met at Marsh, where Daniel was a Senior Vice President and New York Office Environmental Practice Leader, and later Marsh’s first Director of Compliance. Before starting his own firm in 2017, Daniel also served as Principal, Chief Compliance Officer and Environmental Practice Leader at Integro; General Counsel for an environmental insurance MGA; and Partner at a prominent New York City law firm.  Daniel has over 30 years of experience in all aspects of risk management and environmental insurance (underwriting, brokering, claims and compliance), and his law practice has included insurance coverage, environmental, commercial real estate, finance, corporate and litigation.  He received his B.A. from Denison University and his J.D. from New England Law Boston. He is a member of the bar in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

Brian has over 25 years experience in the environmental insurance industry, beginning as an underwriter (at AIG and XL, the two original environmental underwriters), then as a broker (with Marsh and Willis, two of the world’s largest brokerages) and MGA.  Over the past 13 years and in addition to other projects on which the two have worked separately, Brian and Michael have worked together on six major Brownfield cleanups with combined redevelopments of over $1B that now host over 18,000 jobs.  Brian has underwritten and placed nearly 100 Cost Cap policies and over 1,000 Pollution Legal Liability policies, with particular expertise in the evaluation of environmental risks and drafting of risk management plans to reduce risks.  He earned his B.A. in Environmental Conservation from the University of Colorado and is licensed as a producer and surplus lines broker in California and several other Western states.
